Holiday Hangs

Monday was Auckland Anniversary and we decided to take a day trip to Mount Maunganui. We haven’t been there for about 2 years and when our original weekend plans fell through we decided it would be a great time to go to the Mount. We planned to leave at 6.30am just in case traffic was really bad but when we woke up we were too tired and decided to sleep in a little longer haha. So we finally left home at 8am and were lucky enough to have clear roads the entire way. The weather was perfect. It was sunny and warm and actually probably not perfect for a hike haha. We arrived just after 11am and started our hike up Mount Maunganui bang on 11.45am. I thought it was going to be a quick easy walk. Ha. Hahaha. Nope. It was a killer. I thought to myself “why do I even use the cross trainer at the gym? It doesn’t help AT ALL.” I wanted to quit so so so bad. Bryton carried Aston up and he was handling it pretty well (not fair). But when we finally got to the top the view was absolutely worth it. We headed back down and got ice cream from Copenhagen Cones (the real reason I wanted to go the Mount) and Aston demolished both of our ice creams. Then we got into our togs and headed to the beach. They don’t have shade on the beach there so they had big marquees that no one seemed to be using so we had a big shade to ourselves and one other lady. But that didn’t stop us from getting a bit of a tan. The water was freezing and Aston was not keen for it so Bryton and I had to take turns watching her and going for swims. I can’t tell you the last time I swam in the beach – probably over 10 years ago. I don’t usually like the sand or salt water and always avoided swimming but I don’t know what happened to me when Aston was born because now I just want to do everything haha. Swimming in the beach was so refreshing! And the waves were pretty big so it was fun.

After our swims we grabbed some pizza and chips and sat on the beach and ate. It was the best way to end our perfect day. I love days like that where we are out of the house and spending quality time as a family. In just 2 weeks Aston starts at Kohanga (sad face) so I really want to make the most of our weekends and days off together.

I hope everyone in the southern hemisphere is enjoying the sunshine! I kinda don’t want this to end.
